According to a survey by ReportLinker, while 77% of the U.S. working population is full-time, more than 8% of employees have left full-time employment to be their own bosses.
The number of people working online and for themselves is expected to rise exponentially. A study by accounting and tax preparation software company Intuit predicts that the gig economy will climb to 40% by 2020.
Already, 39%-44% of millennials have side jobs.
The main reason why people are willing to leave full-time employment stems from the many ways you can make money online.
