First National Credit Card cost overview

How much does this card cost? For starters, there is no annual fee, which is always a plus. There is an interest rate that will be applied to balances that carry over past the due date, as is the usual with all credit cards. The rate varies with the market based on the Prime Rate. You will find out your rate upon being approved for the card.
Note, you will have the option to make a minimum payment, but if you pay your balance in full by the due date, you won’t pay any interest. Other fees that apply are as follows:
  • 2% for foreign transactions
  • $10 or 4% of the amount for cash advances
  • Up to $25 for late payment
  • Up to $25 for a returned payment
Those are all the basic costs you should know, as of this writing.

First National Credit Card credit limit

First National Bank will assign you a credit limit, and it will be printed on the information that is sent with your card. This is the amount you can spend. If you go over your limit at any time, it must be paid down immediately. When it comes to cash back, you are able to withdraw up to 50% of your credit limit.

First National Credit Card Rewards

With the First National Bank Credit Card, you’ll earn one reward point (equivalent to one dollar) for every $100 that you spend in net purchases; spending $2,000 would earn you 20 points. You will see the number of rewards earned on your billing statement.
Once you earn 25 reward points, you can call customer care to redeem them. They will be applied as a payment toward your account. All rewards must be redeemed in $25 increments, and there aren’t any limits on the number of rewards you can earn. However, points will expire after five years and will be forfeited if your account is suspended or closed.

First National Credit Card Application

To apply for this card, you’ll need to either call your local branch or stop by in-person. If you call, they will mail you an application which you can return by mail or bring it into a branch.
If you have been notified of an offer for the card, you will be able to accept it online. You just need the reservation number and access code from your acceptance form.

Account management

Online card membership services are available so you can manage your account at any time. You will be able to view your account summary, sign up for email and text alerts, and schedule automatic payments. Alternatively, you can receive your billing statements in the mail and send your payments to the address on the statement.

Security

To help protect cardholders against fraud, there is a FraudWatch that monitors ATM and check card transactions. If something seems wrong, you will receive an alert and can call in to get the details. If your card is lost or stolen due to fraud, there is coverage for any losses incurred.

Is First National’s Visa credit card right for you?

First National’s Visa credit card is a decent option. The pros are that there is no annual fee, it’s a Visa card so is accepted widely, and you earn rewards for your spending. Additionally, the bank has a small-town mindset that offers personal customer service to their clients.
The downsides, when comparing this card to other options, are that it charges foreign transaction fees, offers minimal rewards, and lacks cutting-edge technology. It’s inconvenient that you can’t apply online, as sending an application via mail is a little outdated.
There are other cards with no transaction fees and with much better reward programs. For example, travel credit card expert, Lou Haverty, says, “(If you travel), you have the opportunity to get far more value from travel credit cards. I was actually able to fly Emirates first class around the world using Starwood credit card points. The cash cost would have been close to $20,000 for the trip.”
