At APCU, providing our members first-class service has always been our priority. We're a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative committed to helping hardworking people save money and prosper. For more than 90 years, we've stayed true to these beliefs: Everyone deserves a safe, sound place to conduct their financial business. Everyone deserves to receive excellent service.
A person's character and desire to repay a loan are as important as their income. Our members' needs and financial well-being come first. As Georgia's oldest credit union, we're proud of our tradition of service. In 1922, Atlanta Post Office employee Claude M. Harrell read an article in Colliers Magazine about Boston businessman and philanthropist Edward Filene and his establishment of a new kind of cooperative financial institution: the credit union. Mr. Harrell believed a credit union's emphasis on people helping people could help improve the financial well-being of postal employees in Georgia. He led the effort to gain legislative support for the necessary laws that would allow the establishment of a not-for-profit financial institution. In 1925, the laws passed and APCU was chartered.

Over the years, APCU's assets have grown from an initial investment of $2,505 to over $2.1 billion. Today, we're one of the largest credit unions in the country. We're proud to serve more than 100,000 members nationwide with a full complement of financial products and services designed to save them money. In 2020, APCU announced the creation of a new division of the organization that focuses on reaching and serving communities across Georgia: Center Parc Credit Union. This new division gives APCU the opportunity to more actively reach out to the individuals in the communities that do not have a postal service affiliation. Center Parc members will experience the same great service that APCU has always provided along with much more engagement in the local community. APCU is remaining as strong as ever and will continue to actively grow and serve postal-affiliated members and their families for years to come. We sincerely appreciate the loyalty of our members who have been with us throughout the years, and we're excited to welcome new members to our credit union family.
