My bank (KEY) dropped their budget tool and added this as our option. I have not been able to add my bank to wallet and have been in contact with hello wallet since Dec. 27th via phone, email and chat and have not had a fix to my problem. I call & mailbox full. I email and get told they forwarded to tech support. Still no resolution and its Jan 22!! Poor, poor support. Nervous about them having my financial data!!
I suggest you look elsewhere for a budgeting application. First, HelloWallet duplicates two of my accounts but they have different transactions in each. I can't remove one to make my balance sheet look proper because I would lose half my transaction history. HelloWallet support told me six months ago that they are working on it but, for the past six months, they have ignored my requests for an update.
Second, budgeting and guidance is basically useless as it's not customizable - follow their rules or none ...
at all. Their rules do not fit for me and I'm not doing anything odd or special. This issue makes the application's value fall to zero.
Third, my mortgage cannot be added. I was able to add it to three other online budgeting tools but HelloWallet doesn't know about it. Three other of my accounts also cannot be added but the mortgage is the most important. Manually managing it is too inconvenient since there are other choices. Similarly, for accounts I was able to add successfully, I frequently get the "Fix It" button because HelloWallet cannot maintain a connection to the account. I click Fix It, am told it's fixed, but minutes later am told to Fix It again. Ridiculous.
Very good information. I recommend it. It helps my finances.
This app lets you split one transaction into multiple categories, which has been my exact issue with other financial applications. That's the best part of HelloWallet, by far. It's what sets it a part. But, I have to sign into my bank daily in order for the app to update. It's inconvenient because I got the app in the first place thinking it would update automatically. The budgeting tool is pretty good, though.
For a reason unbeknownst to me, I can only link a few of my accounts to HelloWallet. The other accounts will not link and it has been very frustrating. I have contacted the apps technical support team and they have gotten back to me quickly, and are working on adding my accounts. All of this extra work makes me want to go back to my old financial apps. But, I am really excited to see how well this particular apps work when I can actually use it in its full ...
I initially just downloaded this app to try it out, but now am in the process of adding all my accounts so I can delete my other financial management apps. It is so easy to use and includes other assets like your insurance coverage. Since it's free, I honestly am surprised it's so well developed. It is so extremely easy to use and adding all the accounts is so easy. Keeping track of my accounts has never been easier!
HelloWallet is a decent smart phone app, but for many reasons, I will be sticking with my other financial app. I tried to love HelloWallet, but found myself regularly going back to my other app on a daily basis. HelloWallet's budgeting tool is good, but it does not update my accounts automatically like I would like it to (and that it should). It's neat that it considers your insurance, but that isn't my main focus when managing my financials.
This app continues to criticize me for not having health insurance. I do have health insurance, but I can't figure out how to add it to the app. Also, I had an issue adding my accounts and had to contact the app customer service department. I also don't think Hello Wallet is as finished and simple to use as other apps. They are more complete and easy to manage. I probably will get rid of this app because I find myself avoiding it.
I've only had HelloWallet for just over a month, but so far it is the best money app I have used. With categorizing the transactions, it definitely does better than the other apps that do it. It is more accurate and doesn't provide me with uncategorized transactions. It's also great that it includes things like your health insurance, so you're looking at a more broad picture compared to just your transactions.
I have dropped all of my other money managing apps for HelloWallet! This app is the best thing I have ever come across. After only a month, it was no question about whether or not I would keep HelloWallet and have it as my main money management app. I feel like a million bucks keeping such great track of my finances now. The developers have made this thing so easy to use and I love it.
I really like the thinking behind this service. I am also enough of a nerd to really appreciate all the financial and social service research that went into the creation of the HelloWallet platform and app. I also like the fact that HelloWallet works on both your computer AND your mobile device. It is a real plus that HelloWallet is independent of any financial institution and committed never to sell your personal or financial information to third parties. The company is also committed to promoting the social good, ...
providing free memberships to individuals facing financial difficulties.
That said, the main impediment for many people will be the price, $100 annually for an individual membership, billed up front. That's not exactly pocket change for many would-be users. That said, if the extensive number of white papers available on the website, along with the toolkit – all free, along with the responsive customer service are any indication of the overall quality of the service, that $100 membership fee could be money well spent.
Very cool app and site--clean, interactive, and easy to use. But I'm a blog lover, and I agree with Julie B. The blog, and the research they've done is fantastic. Their infographic about "the power of budgeting" and retirement plan participants is spot on.
"Families who do not budget are 10x more likely to skimp on health care." "401K participants who keep a budget are 50% more likely to have sufficient emergency savings." The research they put into backing up these statements is amazing, and really insightful. I'm not a ...
user of their budgeting tools yet, but I'm really considering it!
What attracted me to HelloWallet is the behavioral research they've done, which I found to be quite unique and visionary. It's also often the missing link when it comes to finances. Until you know your behavioral patterns, it's hard to make long-term changes with your personal finances. So I like that they design their product with that in mind. I also like having all of my financial numbers in one place, which gives me an overall view of my finances. One of my behavioral changes I've been working on in ...
terms of my finances is seeing the big picture, in addition to the various pieces. Good stuff.
I've been using HelloWallet for a few years now. Although I liked the idea of Mint, their customer service was abysmal and I couldn't resolve basic account syncing issues. So I went on the hunt for someone else. I think I tried just about everything else before stumbling on to HelloWallet; up until that point, nothing else lived up to my expectations of a sleek, sophisticated budgeting software. But with HW I found what I was looking for, along with exceptional customer service. They continue ...
to innovate and add value to their product, and their format gives me the flexibility I crave when pointing my money in different directions. They also have a strong Google+ presence where you can ask questions and actually get answers. Their phone support has also been top notch in my experience. They get my highest recommendation.
Neat app. I think it's going to be a keeper. I particularly appreciate the flexibility if offers when adding accounts. It allows manual entry accounts as well as bank feeds. My only issue is that it seems to have a two-day delay when reporting purchases.
I've been using HelloWallet for about a year now. Not only does it allow me to see all my accounts (bank, credit cards, loans, 401K, HSA, IRA, etc) in one place, it also helps me have a holistic understanding of my financial state. The app automatically categorizes my spending so I can see where my money is going and areas where I can reduce spending. Then it provides guidance for how to use those extra dollars. In the past year, I've built up an emergency fund, and have gotten myself ...
on track for retirement. Never would have been able to do that without HelloWallet!
