I thought I was pretty smart when it came to budgeting and managing my finances, but Learnvest has actually helped me a lot. I wanted my boyfriend to try it too but he doesnt have an iPhone so he cant download it.

Pros: Learn Vest is accessible to many people who cannot afford a financial planner out right.

The most valuable thing I learned was about calculating what it cost per year for your lifestyle then dividing that number by 12 and opening an account to set that amount aside into separate accounts.

For example lets say my idea of fun things like shopping, travel, dining out cost me $2,000 per year. I would open a FUN account and save $166.00 per month which is $2,000/12= $166.00. ... Anythime I do a "fun" activity, make a transfer to pay for it. Brilliant and I never thought of it before LearnVest

Cons: I paid $299 set up fee and $19.00 per month thereafter. I would say that $300 set up and $19/month is comparable to what you would pay a legit financial planner for two real sessions. If I knew what they really offered for the money you pay, I would've passed.

You only get two phone calls. The phone calls last about 1 hour and are very impersonal you cant see the person advising you about your money. No bueno. I suggested Skype but was told for legal reasons they cant skype. After the two phone calls you are on your own.

Those stupid PDF worksheets: Once you have painstakingly input all your financial information into the Learnvest system i.e salary, retirement and debt, you are required to complete worksheets to figure out a budget. The idea is great but the execution is terrible because the worksheets have to be printed out and done by hand. In addition, the work on the worksheets remains on paper its not incorporated into the system electronically. FAIL

Conclusion: LearnVest is a classic case of being too big for its britches. While they have some great and innovative ideas, they fail on software and executing those ideas.

All you are really getting from Learnvest is what Mint.com provides for free with the exception of 2 phone calls from a personal planner and daily "tasks" via automatic emails that go ignored. If you need more support and guidance especially with investing, just pay to play and hire a real CFA.

The new version of LearnVest is super sleek in design and useful. I like that is has all the features of the web version, so that I don't have to see two different financial stories on my phone and laptop. It's a great tool to manage your money and see exactly where everything is going. If you are brave and link ALL of your accounts to LV, you will be kept honest and humble. No matter lying to yourself about where your money goes!

Learnvest is awesome. They explain things in a way that makes sense and their program is so easy to use. I think everyone should have this on their phones!

This app is great for the basic budgeting that a person would want to do, but if you want a little more, you have to look to the website version. This is a little inconvenient because I'd like everything to be in one spot. But the app puts everything in one spot for you, so you can see the spending coming out of each of your accounts and on your debits. The app does take a little longer to load, but I prefer to be mobile over sitting at a ... computer. More Less

LearnVest is a wonderful way to manage your finances, but the developers need to come up with a better mobile app to compliment the computer software. It is so easy to use that I was so disappointed when I got the app. It doesn't allow you to edit anything. My only concern with the software in general is that it can mis-categorize my purchases, but I can live with that. But I can not live with an app that is not as useful to me as the web software.

LearnVest is a good way to manage your financial situation, but I do prefer to use the website over the app. The app just takes way too long to load. The website version is a lot quicker. The app is also not as user friendly as the website version. If they bring back the charts and tables in the app version, I will happily go back to it because it is more convenient for me to do it on the go.

The last LearnVest update made the app even more amazing! I've always loved this app, but now it is much easier to use. I like that the app has the features of the web version, too. I love that I can manage all of the spending going on in each and every one of my accounts so I am an informed spender. It keeps me down to earth when it comes to my finances, and I no longer overspend!

The website version of this app is much, much better. It has tons more features that are essential to monitoring you finances and budgeting. The app is very limited regarding what you can do and what it shows you. This is very helpful in managing your money and helping you budget, which I like. I wish there was a better mobile version, but until then, I'll continue to use it on my laptop.

This app is really frustrating. When I go to open it, it takes soooo long to load. It is almost not worth it to wait. Then, the app doesn't keep any information so you constantly have to put in what you want to track and manage. The website has more features that I'd like on the app. I still use LearnVest because I feel like there is a lot of potential, but I am still waiting for an update that will make it more user friendly.

I gave the actual Learn Vest application a try after using the desktop program for some time. The app is no where near as good as the one program you can use on the computer.. It never manages to save my information and I have to input things every time I open it (which takes a really long time for whatever reason). If they could update the app to be more fluid, and more similar to the desktop version, it would be a great system.

Some aspects of LearnVest require a full, linked account, which I don't want to do. I like using this program, but I am limited in what I can do. I wanted to create a "spending priorities" section, but was unable to because I didn't link my accounts. It would be better if I could do all that people with linked accounts do. It would be better in terms of budgeting and monitoring for me. I can do a little in terms of budgeting, but most of it requires linked accounts ... so I am very, very limited with what I can actually budget with this program. It's a little inconvenient, but I still like it. More Less

Learn Vest is a decent way to manage your finances, but there are programs with better attributes. For example, I have found that Learn Vest doesn't recognize my recurring bills and payments as easily as other programs I have used before. The budgeting feature on Learn Vest is definitely similar to other ones I've used, and it works really well. I will continue to use Learn Vest as I feel it is a great asset to my financial monitoring and budgeting.

I like that you can manually add transactions on LearnVest. I have used financial programs in the past where you cannot add anything manually, so it is mandatory that you link your bank accounts and credit cards. Not everyone wants to do that, so being able manually add them is very convenient. The fact that it's free is always great (especially for those who are using it to budget!)

I love LearnVest's advice center! I have utilized this feature too many times to count, and the advice I have gotten is absolutely amazing. They are so helpful and really want you to be knowledgeable about your financial situation. I have also signed up for LearnVest's newsletter, which provides additional information on every day financial topics. I have never used anything so in depth as LearnVest.

I wish LearnVest had more features that other financial apps have. You are unable to split transactions between categories and you also can't get rid of a transaction after it is made. I also use another app to remind me of upcoming bills and when I found out LearnVest doesn't offer that feature, I was disappointed. You also can't really monitor the finances of multiple people, so it is not the best for families.

LearnVest is a great financial tool. The developers really care about providing educational resources to the user, which I use regularly. You can get financial advice, as well as educational newsletters through them. I like that all of my transactions are automatically pulled from my accounts and cards, instead of me manually entering them. The design is very neat and easy to use for every one.

I use another financial app for my family and wanted to give LearnVest a shot. The only problem is, it is not designed for many people to use. I can't split expenses between me and people in my family, so according to LearnVest, I have that expense. My other app allows me to split the expense. At the end of the day, this app is useful for people who handle all their expenses themselves, but is not helpful for those who need to split their expenses.

I was hesitant to use LearnVest after a friend recommended it because I didn't feel comfortable putting all of my financial information on an app. But I've had it for some time now and ultimately, I am happy with it. It provides so many budgeting options, from buying a house to paying off credit cards, that I am more motivated to meet my goals. I am currently saving to pay off my loans and this app has really helped.

LearnVest is awesome at educating you about your money! Not only can you monitor your regular spending, but they also provide very detailed educational resources for you. I use this for my regular budgeting (it is so much more convenient on the go!) and really enjoy it so far. It updates pretty quickly so I never have to wait a long time to see my transactions in the app. It's a great thing for people who need a little help with their money!

I am a dyed-in-the-wool do-it-yourselfer. I do my own taxes; I have set up each computer I have ever owned (8, at last count) and muddle through my own bill paying schedule. But I have to say that I really like the LearnVest system. I like the idea of working with a professional who is tuned in to helping each person set his or her own goals. I also like being able to set up an account for free and conduct a free consultation so that you know you're ... getting the right plan before you start paying money.

The service allows you to set different goals: getting out of debt, saving money, investing and (tada!) setting up an actual, working budget. The service provides the right balance of guidance from an expert and allowing you to take an active role in planning your own financial future. The main drawback I can see so far is that the up-front fees are fairly significant, ranging from $89 for a budget starter to $399 for a portfolio builder. But once you've scaled that hurdle, the monthly fees of $19 are pretty reasonable, considering you have a dedicated CFP working with you.

Learnvest is a great way to get a free personalized financial check up of your budget, financial priorities and retirement needs without having to pay a financial planner hundreds of dollars. The free financial checkup shows whether you're on track for those three critical areas. You can then buy can reasonably priced plans created by Certified Financial Planners.

You can also schedule a call with a CFP to discuss the evaluation and help you decide your next steps.

I particularly like how the mint-like money management tool allows you to get a ... live view of your finances and check on the progress of your long term financial goals. More Less

For a free financial manager, LearnVest is amazing! I love that I can add so much to monitor. I currently have my regular checking/savings account, credit cards, mortgage, and my loans. I can keep track of my financial profile as a whole, whereas other financial managing programs only offer your credit card purchases. I really can't think of anything negative about LearnVest, and I think it's a great asset to every person!
