Who is the Black Card Mastercard Designed For?

Black Card Mastercard is designed for frequent travelers with good to excellent credit who love luxury perks and receiving VIP treatment and don't mind paying a high annual fee for the privilege. Although Black Card Mastercard does include exclusive benefits, its annual fee and low rate of rewards only make it worthwhile for the most demanding of frequent travelers who really feel the need to own a credit card made of stainless steel.

What are the Rates for the Visa Black Card?

Black Card Mastercard has a 15.24% APR on purchases and balance transfer. New customers receive a 0% APR introductory rate for the first 15 months. Cash advances have a 25.24% APR.

What Are the Fees for Visa Black Card?

The Black Card Mastercard has a pretty outrageous annual fee of $495 and an extra $195 annual fee for every authorized user added to the account. Ouch! There is also a 3% balance transfer fee (minimum $5 fee) and a 5% cash advance fee (minimum $10 fee). Late and returned payments incur a $37 fee. The only break Black Card Mastercard gives its members is that it doesn't charge foreign transaction fees.

What Is Visa Black Card's Rewards Program Like?

Black Card Mastercard has a blah rewards program that basically gives 1 point per $1 spent on all purchases. If the points are redeemed for airline tickets through Visa Black Card's Exclusive Rewards Program, points are worth double. For example, if you earn 50,000 points, you can redeem them for a $500 statement credit or $1,000 in airline tickets when you buy them through their rewards program. Although the double points value on airline tickets is interesting, it's still a lame program for a “luxury” card that charges a $495 annual fee.

What about Visa Black Card's Signup Bonus?

Black Card Mastercard doesn't give new cardholders a signup bonus.

Does the Black Card Mastercard Have Any Other Benefits?

Black Card Mastercard includes many benefits, services and VIP perks. These include VIP treatment at over 3,000 hotels, National Emerald Club car rental status, Lounge Club membership, access to exclusive events, and luxury gifts from renowned brands. This in addition of the “basic” benefits you expect from a prime credit card, such as car rental coverage, travel insurance and extended warranty. However, it doesn't include standard benefits like identity theft protection, price protection and return protection; or VIP perks other high-end cards include, such as a premium private jet or limousine program.

How Is Black Card Mastercard Better Than Other Credit Cards?

Black Card Mastercard has an impressive list of luxury benefits. The Lounge Club access, car rental elite status and Black Card VIP program are certainly attractive to frequent flyers. However, its rewards program is nothing special. Travel rewards cards with annual premiums under $100 like Barclaycard Arrival+ and Chase Sapphire Preferred have much more generous reward rates. And that is the bottom line. This would be a great card to have, if it weren't for the $495 annual fee, the modest signup bonus and a not-so-great rewards program. If the "status" symbol of owning a high-end card is important to you, there are other luxury cards, such as the American Express® Platinum and the Citi Prestige, that have more perks and better rewards program and still manage to “only” charge an annual fee of $450.
