· If you apply for the American Express online, it is free. Purchasing one online could set you back up to $3.95.

· ATM withdrawals are $0, as long as you use a MoneyPass ATM. Out-of-network ATMs have a $2.50 fee.
· Foreign Transactions have a 2.7% fee after the charge is converted to US Dollars.
· All of American Express’ other prime features are all free. These include free online bill pay, sending and receiving money, setting aside money for a rainy day, and creating sub-accounts for your friends, family, or employees. Even card replacements are free.
What Rewards Does The American Express Serve Offer?

American Express Serve customers receive:
· Free ATM Withdrawals
· Free Fraud Protection (rare among prepaid cards)
· Subaccounts. Perfect for controlling the spending of family members
· Mobile access
The Bottom is the Amex Serve offers all the services you want from a prepaid debit card at rock bottoms prices. If you have a direct debit of $500 or more, you can bank for free. The only caveat is that cash reloads can cost up to $3.95, but you can avoid that fee by using Amex’s mobile check deposit, direct deposit, and sending money from another bank account.

The best thing about this card is the low monthly fees, which is just $1 and can be zero by just doing direct deposit or loading at least $500 on the card. Awesome
Avoid this card if at all possible. I had the Serve card since 9-11-14 and was fairly satisfied with it except for the lack of free use ATMs. My problems began in September of this year when I made a purchase from WalMart.com and the payment wasn't being processed. When I called the Customer Service department and was given the runaround I knew that I was going to end up loosing money and that there was no way to resolve the issue using the customer service line and ... there was no other way of making contact. This is an online business without an email address and the only way to contact corporate is through the mail. Dealing with AE Serve when an issue comes up is going to be very frustrating to attempt to resolve. If there is a credit union available go that route. David M. Mack More Less
The best thing about this card is the low monthly fees, which is just $1 and can be zero by just doing direct deposit or loading at least $500 on the card. You can also do free ATM withdrawals which is almost unheard of with prepaid cards.
Never use this card at a hotel. Amex places holds that are WAY more than the amount you're actually paying. I found this out the hard way and almost wasn't able to check in. If I didn't have another card I would have been sleeping at the airport.
Unlike a lot of prepaid cards, Amex Serve doesn't weigh you down with fees. They also don't place ridiculously long authorization holds on your card. BUT they place an extra 20% hold on your card when you use it at a hotel, which means if you want to charge $100 you actually have to have $120 on the card. No bueno.
Kudos to Amex for offering a prepaid card that isn't loaded down with fees. There is also 24-hour customer service. But it can be hard to communicate when you're attempting to resolve problems, because it's obvious that a lot of their customer service agents aren't native English speakers.
Big mistake getting this card. I attached my bank account to it and from there, it all fell apart. Unknown transactions occurred and it literally took months of teeth pulling to figure it out with customer service. They are so unhelpful even when I hadn't made the mistake, their company did. No more amex prepaid for me.
I think this card does what it is supposed to do. I have bad credit, so I can't get any more charge accounts, but I hate carrying cash, so this is a good alternative. People should find out what the card actually is before getting it and then complaining that it doesn't improve their credit score. Duh. It's a prepaid card.
I made the mistake of transferring over money to this prepaid card. Change in my work schedule decreased the money I'm bringing home every week, so I need access to the money on my Serve card. Unfortunately, there is STILL a hold on my funds. I need that money and don't understand why I cant access it yet.
This card only causes problems. Honestly. You transfer money and they put a hold on it for a week. Why can't I use my own money, isn't that why I got the card? I've actually had arguments with my husband about the stress this card causes on our finances.
I upgraded to the Serve card and it was the worst mistake of my life. It is completely pointless to have a card that cannot make online payments. Everything was always rejected even though there was more than enough money. Thanks for nothing, Amex. I'm done with the Serve card and I'm done with you.
Are these guys serious? They closed my account right after my tax check was deposited on there. I was counting on that for my bills, now I have to wait until my dispute is resolved. What a joke of a company. How can you do that to your loyal customers?
They are THE WORST!!! I ended up forgetting about the card completely, with only a few dollars left on it. When I remembered the card and tried to close the account, they gave me the runaround about closing an account with an outstanding balance. Fine, take the money. It's a couple dollars. What scammers.
Customer service is worthless. No one at this company gives a rats *** about you. I've called numerous times and never get the ending result I need. Go with another company that actually provides some sort of support and help for their loyal, paying customers. Not this crap.
The card was okay until I had to contact customer service. American Express outsources like no other. It took me forever to get through to someone who spoke English, and when I did, I could barely understand them through their thick accent. If I can't rely on the customer support, I can't rely on the company
I actually like this card. It's reloadable so its good for making a budget but you do have to make sure you have enough on their so you don't have fees or holds. Just read the fine print on the paperwork and you should be good. Also, if you live in a state that doesn't charge a fee, its even better.
There was some fraud on my Serve account and the customer service reps at American express took FOREVER to figure it out. I reported it right away but they still took their sweet time, without updates, information, or anything. Their customer service is just plain bad.
I've never dealt with such a bad customer support team. Half the people are from other countries, the other half can't even help you. They need to get people who are knowledgeable and trained so they can help their customers. Super frustrating, I can't even tell you.
I have no complaints about the American Express Serve card. Where I live, there's no yearly fee which is awesome. I love the app (it has a few bugs, but nothing major) and that transferring money is a breeze. I couldn't ask for anything more with a prepaid card.
I don't know what the point of this card it. I got it and it doesn't function the way it should. Transferring money takes forever because of the holds, and customer service is horrific. Dealing with them is a nightmare. This card was a bad decision on my part.
Nope. Never again will I deal with American Express. They are a bunch of liars, cheats, and scammers. This card doesn't reveal its true colors until after you've already used it. Nope. Waste of energy. Don't even get it- you'll be disappointed.
i wanted to use this card to budget but the customer service is just horrible. When I tried to make the first transfer they held the money for a week, so I called and asked why. 4 different people, including a manager, all gave me different answers. They don't have their stuff in line and it affects their customers.
I've had numerous prepaid cards in the past and this one is by far the worst. Who wants a card where there's a low limit you can take out each month, and you can't even transfer from other accounts?? Worst prepaid card ever!!
Super simple to use and I have zero complaints. Read the fine print and you won't have any problems, that's all. I'm even getting one for my father to use to budget his spending better. Loading couldn't be simpler or quicker. There when you need it. Great card, no complaints.
My wife and I have been sharing the American Express Serve Prepaid Card for a few months now. It's really easy to load from our other accounts, without a fee. We use it as a “recreational” account and so far, it's helped us stay within budget.
I really was in the market for a prepaid card that helped with my credit score. Turns out, after 6 months, I realize this card does not. What a waste of time when I thought it was helping me. If you want a card that's linked to your credit, look around.
