Glad I got renters insurance when I moved out with 21st Century. A year after I moved out, I was broken into and a lot of valuable electronics were stolen. They replaced them, so I wasn't out much money. That was good, because my confidence was truly shaken by the break-in.
I recently had to file a claim for a fire in my building that partially burned my apartment and really wrecked my clothing and other things. The person who asked me questions and walked me through the papework was really nice, but I haven't gotten a check yet and it's been over a week.
I have a good friend who insisted that she didn't need renters insurance, because she didn't own her apartment. Now she is singing a different tune after having a lot of stuff damaged in a flood caused by her upstairs neighbor's bathtub. I got renters insurance from 21st Century as soon as that happened to her. The customer service person was really nice.
Pretty good experience, although I would have expected better from such a giant company. What they cover in their renters policy is a little bit lacking, I think. I'm not too keen on adding riders to my coverage because they haven't created basic insurance that applies to my life.
I believe that just because you don't own a home, you still need renters insurance. 21st Century seems to believe the same, as they have renters insurance, which I have. I recently had to make a small claim, and it was honored. I didn't get a rate increase either, as I feared.
