With more than 200 years of expertise,
The Hartford is a leader in property and casualty insurance. We’re happy to answer your questions about umbrella insurance.

Why do I need coverage?
Did you know that auto and home claims can result in a significant lawsuit?

Even if the court decides in your favor, you may still have to pay legal fees and court costs. Judgments, legal fees, and court costs that exceed the coverage provided by your auto and/or homeowners policy can be covered with a personal umbrella policy.

Do I qualify for an umbrella policy?
To be eligible for coverage, you will need to have and maintain minimum liability limits on your auto and home insurance policies.

For auto coverage, the minimum limits are $250,000/$500,000 for Bodily Injury and $50,000 for Property Damage.

For home coverage, the minimum liability limit is $300,000.

If you own a recreational vehicle or watercraft, you will also need to maintain certain requirements. A licensed Hartford Representative is available to help answer additional questions and provide you with a quote.

Who is covered under my policy?
Your umbrella insurance will cover you, your spouse, and any others living in your household, within the limits and exclusions described in the policy.

Can I get a discount on my auto and homeowners policy?
Yes. On top of the bundle discount you get for covering both your car and home with us, you will get an additional discount when you start your Personal Umbrella Policy.
