I have a whole life policy since April 2010. First Unum has consistently botched up my premiums and their customer service is incapable of resolving issues. I have been wrangling with their ineptitude since 2013, that's 7 years now! In all that time, not once have they reached back to indicate where the problems of billing began or why their own policy records don't match updated ones that I've requested. I have a whole life policy that allows for going into a loan if a premium exceeds the grace period. Due to job situations, I had to utilize this loan and it is now a bungled mess. Using their own policy payment history, I constructed an excel spreadsheet to calculate the actual differences, if any. The spreadsheet shows there is an arrears of >$300, which includes accrued interest from who-knows-where. However, according to their recent annual summary, they say I owe $942.12! They have not provided an explanation or detailed summary to show how they arrived at their calculation. Please do not use this firm if you desire to have headache-free policy maintenance.
