What we love about Free Tax USA
Free Tax USA lives up to its name, offering online tax-preparation services at no cost. This includes all federal tax filing, regardless of complexity or income level. The software aims to make it easy to fill out and file your taxes, guiding you through the process by asking simple questions.
You can purchase the Deluxe version of the software for a small fee which includes additional features, such as audit assistance, unlimited amended return filing, and priority support.
If you use Free Tax USA for multiple years, you can import last year’s data to make filing this year’s taxes quicker.
What could Free Tax USA do better?
Free Tax USA’s name only applies to federal tax filing. If you live in a state with a state-level income tax, you have to pay an additional fee to file your state taxes using Free Tax USA.
The company also only offers online support for its program. The company doesn’t have a phone line that you can call, so if you run into a complicated issue you’ll be left to deal with email or chat support instead of speaking to someone directly.
The website’s user interface is also basic. It’s functional, but other programs may offer a sleeker experience.

I think the biggest advantage of FreeTaxUSA is its affordability. It is one of the few free tax filing options that allows you to file your state taxes for free.
I also like the fact that FreeTaxUSA is easy to use. The interface is very straightforward, and the software walks you through the tax-preparation process step-by-step.

My accountant has been extremely helpful since day one especially with the current times we are in which has been stressful. So to have an accountant get you through the financial aspects and explain everything has been beneficial in many ways. THE PROGRAM WORKED FINE UNTIL I WENT TO FILE IN 2019 @ 10PM THEN THE WEBSITE CRASHED AND WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO FILE. THIS CAUSED BIG PROBLEMS WITH FED. AND STATE FOR LATE FILING PENALTIES. I WILL NEVER TRUST THIS WEBSITE AGAIN.....

For the past two years, I have tested a lot of tax preparation firms but FreeTax USA is the best for me.
Their site is easy to navigate, and they help you with my tax preparations. I love their customer relations also. I totally recommend their company.

I am used to doing my own taxes and was not very organized with the data. I contact FreeTaxUSA because I had some tax questions regarding my business. The answers they gave me were straightforward, helped me to understand how to move forward.

For over ten years I have used various online tax preparation services, FreeTaxUSA, TaxAct, and TaxSlayer. In my experience, they all provided accurate tax preparation. I have been very satisfied with FreeTaxUSA for the last three years, straight forward input of information and inexpensive cost for the Deluxe version. They also offer a Free version. I would recommend them.

I filed my 2012 2013 2014 prior return and it was finalized on march 29,2016. I still haven't received my return. Doing my prior return I had to mail them and haven't heard anything. Can anybody help me or any suggestions ?

After using FreeTaxUSA for four years, I am highly disappointed with their customer service. I have never had to use them up until this year. I contacted them promptly after I got an error message when trying to file my state taxes. The emailed me back with a long message that did not answer my question at all. I am SO FRUSTRATED with FreeTaxUSA!! I wanted to do my FREE federal return that I saw advertised with them. I had issue towards the end so I called customer service. I had an issue e-filing my state taxes with FreeTaxUSA after I had already paid. Because I'd already done my federal taxes and they were e-filed, the system would not allow me to correct the error on the state taxes.
