I would 100% recommend Axos Bank. Not having a minimum deposit to open an account is unheard of nowadays. Not only that, but they refund every single ATM fee from other banks. Now you don't earn interest, but they also don't have high fees like some banks, so to me it evens out.

The Essential Checking account is worth considering for those looking for a low cost option. The account has no overdraft fees and it also features unlimited ATM fee reimbursements in the U.S. There’s also no minimum amount needed to open an account and no monthly service fee.

Their customer service has gone downhill in recent years. Took forever to get a new debit card that supposedly was expedited to me. Despite years of begging them to indicate whether you have earned the interest at certain tiers, they do not provide that information. Essential checking accounts don't charge overdraft or nonsufficient funds fees. Transactions with them are simply declined until you enroll for a bank overdraft. It includes the option to set up automatic payment directly from your savings account into your checking account as much as you want. They also have a credit line for their overdraft. I wanted to start having an account to keep my funds as a way to have savings. I enjoy that there is no monthly maintenance fee charged and the fact that I was able to open up and account with any amount as a minimum initial deposit. I get to check on my account through my phone too, which saves me a lot of hassle.
