When it comes to financial institutions, you have plenty of options. But look below the surface and you'll find American Eagle FCU is different from others. While we offer all of the products and services you need for your family or business, the difference is in our people. We're guided by a different set of standards, one that places members first because they're the owners and ultimate decision-makers. When you see what makes us who we are, your choice is clear. As a full-service, not-for-profit credit union, American Eagle FCU provides the products and services needed to achieve your goals, and we're owned by members just like you. Our not-for-profit status allows us to pay the highest possible rates on deposit accounts, charge the lowest possible rates on loans and keep our service fees to a minimum. Our 11-member Board of Directors serves as elected volunteers, guiding us into the future and ensuring we're positioned to provide for our members. We've served generations of families since 1935 when Harry C. Smith, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft's Employment Manager, and 14 fellow employees brought East Hartford Aircraft Federal Credit Union to Pratt & Whitney. When many banks failed during the Great Depression, the credit union grew its membership by offering savings and loans to Pratt & Whitney employees.
Membership grew steadily for decades. In 1996, EHAFCU changed its name to American Eagle Federal Credit Union to reflect a broadened field of membership and expanded branch network. Our field of service expanded in 2006 to include people who live, work, worship, attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in Hartford County, Middlesex County, or Tolland County, Connecticut. In 2015, our name changed slightly to American Eagle Financial Credit Union after we converted from a federal charter to a state charter and opened up membership to individuals and businesses in New Haven County. In early 2019, we broadened our field of membership to individuals and businesses in Hampden County, Massachusetts. American Eagle FCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative headquartered in East Hartford, Connecticut. It is the largest community credit union in Connecticut with 14 community offices, over 160,000 members and $2.1 billion in assets. AEFCU operates retail offices in Avon, Bloomfield, Cromwell, East Hartford, Enfield, Glastonbury, Manchester, Newington, North Haven, Plainville, Southington, South Windsor, Vernon and West Hartford. AEFCU offers banking services to everyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, or works for a business or other legal entity, in Hartford, Middlesex, Tolland, and New Haven counties in Connecticut, and Hampden County in Massachusetts. Member deposits are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. government agency.
