Features

If your credit has taken a couple of knocks, you probably realize that you aren't eligible for the best credit card deals. But if you're willing to maintain current payments going forward, and especially if you can avoid carrying a balance, the Capital One Classic Platinum card may be your ticket back to good credit. The Capital One Classic Platinum card provides the benefits of a real credit card from a reputable credit card company.

Who Is the Capital One Classic Platinum Card Designed For?

This card is designed for people who need or want a credit card but who don't qualify for credit cards with great rewards or cash back deals. The Capital One Classic Platinum card is ideal for disciplined individuals who are prepared to establish and maintain a consistent on-time payment record in a quest to improve their overall credit profiles and FICO scores. It is not a good choice for individuals who carry large balances, due to its high APR, and its hefty late fees make it a bad choice for people who are less than conscientious about paying their bills on time.

Are There Annual Fees?

There is no annual fee.

Does the Capital One Classic Platinum Card Offer Rewards?

The Capital One Classic Platinum Card does not offer a rewards program per se. However, unlike many credit cards, there is no boost in the APR for cash advances. You can also qualify for a credit line increase after making your first five monthly payments on time. You also qualify for many of the benefits offered by Capital One to all of its customers, including 0 dollar Fraud Liability in case of unauthorized transactions and the Credit Tracker program, which includes free access to your FICO score.

Are There Foreign Transaction Fees?

There are no foreign transaction fees, which is a nice perk for a fair credit card.

Are There Late Payment or other Penalty Fees?

The late payment penalty fee is a hefty 35 dollars. There is also a cash advance fee of 10 dollars or 3 percent of the total cash advance, whichever is greater. But late payments won't trigger a penalty APR, which is of more than minor consequence.

Summary

The bottom line is that if you want to boost your credit profile and can qualify for an unsecured credit card, the Capital One Classic Platinum card is not a bad choice. But you must be meticulous about maintaining on-time payments, preferably in full. This is definitely not a card that you want to max out.

After having a secured credit card for what seemed like an eternity (2 years), I tried applying for this classic card. I wasn't sure if I was going to get the card, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that I did. I don't mind the annual fee, because it's not that much and I'm so enjoying have an unsecured card!

This is a great card for rebuilding your credit, but keep in mind that you have to walk the straight and narrow with this. No late payments at all! If you want this to work you must pay on time, don't take out too much that you can't pay it off and just be responsible overall with your finances. If you do that you can and will build your credit. I know. I have, and this card has helped me do that.

I used to try and stay away from cards with annual fees, but then I had some problems with losing my job and had a few late payments and I saw my credit go down. When I wanted a card recently I found that I had to apply to ones like this one that took lower credit limits. The $39 fee is not all that high compared to some cards, though, so I figure it's better than nothing.

This card is great because they approve people with lowish credit, but they treat you like all of their other customers. You still get all of the great benefits of being a Capital One customer, including the credit tracker program that lets you have access to your true FICO score and the fraud liability protection.

I got a little limit when I first applied and was approved, but after you make 5 payments on time they put your credit limit up, so mine shot up considerably. I also really like how they give you your credit score whenever you want. I have been tracking mine since I got the card and am noticing it rising.

Except for the $35 late fee that you don't want to get, this is a great card for rebuilding your credit and getting where you want to go with your finances. I got a credit line increase after five months of paying on time--so no late fee!! I'm happy I applied for it.

I got this card to help me build my credit score and it is helping me do just that. Thanks to this card, I can also access my score when I want, so I'm seeing it go up as I don't max out the card, and I pay off the balance as I go along. I'm thinking this tactic will continue to help me.

My credit was doing really bad, and I didn't know if I'd ever be able to pull it up again when I saw an article about applying for a card that takes even poor credit risks like me. I went ahead and found this card and applied and was surprised and really happy when I was okayed for a $500 credit limit. That was a year ago. I now have a higher credit limit and my FICO has gone up a whole 50 points! I'm doing the happy dance now. ... Glad I went ahead and applied. More Less

Great option if you have had a little difficulty with credit but are ready to get serious in terms of using it responsibly. I got approved for a credit limit of $1500, and I've enjoyed the fact that if I pay on time, my FICO score continues to improve. That is my goal!

The credit tracker you get with this card is really handy. I get to monitor my credit and they also analyze your credit use and how you can do better to raise your score. I've followed their advice, and I'm seeing my score go up. Yeah, baby!!!

Even though this card says it takes lower credit limits, the first couple of times I was denied and got hit on my credit report for the hard inquiries! I decided to see if the third time was the charm and it was. I finally got the card. Now I hope that paying it off on time and using it will help me build up my credit to higher than before I started with this.

I had a card with Capital One for years with never any complaints with their service. Account received several unsolicited credit line increases. Closed the account due to high rate and yearly fee. I did recommend the card to my adult son when he was looking to establish credit.

This card shows you that no matter how low your credit may be, there is hope! I messed up with credit cards when I was young and ended up with a 520 credit score :(. But then a friend told me about this card and how it could help you rebuild. I figured it was worth a true, but to be honest I didn't think it was going to work. I was wrong, thankfully!!! I got a $400 credit limit to start from them, which was incredible to me, considering ... my score. Now 18 months later I'm happy to report that my score is at 630! So I am going back up and really happy. More Less

The credit tracker alone on this card is well worth applying for it. I enjoy having access to my credit when I want it. Rather than having to go to a credit monitoring service, I simply check with Capital One. The low annual fee of $39 is also a perk.

This is a nice card for someone who wants to get credit for one thing and then build up some credit. It doesn't have any rewards, though, so it's pretty no frills. If you have a decent credit rating and want a card that gives you some rewards, this is not the card to get. Otherwise, get the card and you will see results with getting your credit limit up. I did!

There is a fee with this card, but it's low at $39. I like to use it all of the time, because I'm working on building up my credit and because I also like to check on my credit score, which this card gives you the opportunity to do. There's also no transfer fee.

When you have difficulty with your credit limit for whatever reason life has thrown your way, it's really, really difficult. I've struggled for about five years thanks to an injury and my credit has struggled right along with me. When I discovered that this card could help me rebuild my credit, I was overjoyed. I didn't quite believe it at first, but then I discovered after getting approved that miracles do happen. They continue to happen--my FICO score keeps rising!

Besides the fact that this card has an annual fee of $39, it is terrific. I know the fee is probably a small price to pay to rebuild my credit, but I just hate paying fees for credit cards! At any rate, the card has been helping me rebuild my credit, like it's supposed to. I've gone up 30 points so far in 6 months.

I've had one late penalty fee with this card, which I consider good since I've had it for 12 months and I used to be late all of the time with my other cards, which is why I find myself with this "credit rehab" card. Keep in mind that the late fee is high--at $35, so try to avoid it. Good news is that it doesn't trigger a penalty APR!

I was worried about applying for this card and getting a hard inquiry that would lower my score, which would suck if I didn't get the card. Consequently, I didn't try to get this card for awhile--just kept thinking about it. Now I'm glad I finally applied, as I got an $800 credit limit!

This card offers you a lot. I know that some people don't like ot pay the annual fee, but for what you get, I think the fee should be higher. Number one is a credit card. Many people getting this card have not so great credit like me. Another thing is their credit tracker, which comes free with the card. You get credit alerts from Transunion, and there is a credit simulator that allows you to see how the different credit moves you make will affect your score. I've used ... it and have to say it works amazing!! More Less

The fraud liability really came in handy. I was traveling in Mexico, and I lost my wallet. I was able to call Capital One and they handled the situation quickly and expediently. I ended up not losing anything--they covered it all. It was still upsetting to lose my wallet, but at least they were there to help me.

I've been diligently trying to up my credit score for two years now so this card seemed like the perfect thing for my "arsenal." The card gives you the opportunity to dig your way out of a bad credit score hole. After five payments on time they raise your credit limit, which will raise your score, providing you don't spend the difference.

I am trying to rebuild my credit and I heard about this card, which looks to be a huge help in this area. I also had a credit card with a horrible, what I think predatory interest rate, so the 20.9% variable looked attractive on this card, as well as the fact that they have no transfer fee. I have transferred the balance and have started to pay it off. So far a slight increase in my score!

The customer service at this place is outstanding. I tend to be one of those people who can't quite figure out all of the online stuff and I always end up calling. Some companies are pretty lame when it comes to customer service, but not Capital One. The people are always there to be polite and to explain things to me in a way I can understand.

This is THE card to go to if you want to rebuild your credit. I had credit in the high 500s not too long ago and didn't think there was hope, but I applied for a card and actually got one! Now just 9 months later I'm in the 600s and they've raised my credit limit, too. This is worth it if you are trying to rebuild your credit.

Pro:I had a credit score of 512 CK. I got approved for $500 and it has gone up to $1500 after one year. My credit score is now 630. Make sure you keep ure balance under 30% usage. i.e. my limit is $1500 so i keep my balance under $450. That is what's building my credit.

Con:Always pay on time b/c the fee is $40 and intrest kicks in after your first year.

This is a great card for ppl with less than perfect credit.. I was initially approved for $500 credit limit and nine months later they increased my limit to $2500.00. I
