Who is SDFCU's Visa Platinum® Credit Card Designed For?

The State Department Federal Credit Union EMV-enabled Visa Platinum® Credit Card is for people who want a low APR, no-annual-fee credit card that also has a rewards program. The SDFCU is primarily a credit union for employees of The Department of States but anybody can qualify by selecting the American Consumer Council as an associated organization when filling in a membership application.

What are the Rates?

Rates are low and there is no penalty rate to worry about if you're late on a payment. Depending on their credit history members can qualify for a rate ranging from 7.49% APR to 15.49% APR. The same range applies for cash advances and balance transfers.

Are there any fees for Visa Platinum® Credit Card?

Low fees are the hallmark of credit unions and the SDFCU doesn't disappoint. The SDFCU's Platinum Visa has no annual fee, no application fee, no balance transfer fee and no foreign transaction fees. There is a $3 cash advance fee, if members use an ATM but the fee is waived when the cash advance is done over the counter.

As long as members are on time with their monthly payments there are no fees to worry about. There is, of course, a $25 fee for late payments and returned payments.

What Is the Rewards Program Like?

The Flexpoints Rewards Program allows cardholders to earn one Flexpoint for every dollar spent with their credit card. Additionally, SDFCU members can earn one Flexpoint for every two dollars spent with their debit card and five Flexpoints by paying a bill through Bill Play.

As with most programs, points can be redeemed for merchandise, travel, gift cards and even as donations to charitable organizations.

What about the signup bonus?

There isn't a signup bonus.

Any Other Benefits?

The card comes with secured chip-enabled technology, which is a requirement in many countries. Cardholders can also access a network of 30,000 CO-OP ATMs without having to worry about additional fees.

How Is Visa Platinum® Credit Card Better Than Other Credit Cards?

The SDFCU's Visa Platinum® Credit Card combines a generous rewards program with low rates and no annual or balance transfer fees. This makes it an excellent card to pay off high interest credit card debt and earn points on new purchases. The fact it doesn't have foreign transaction fees and includes secured chip-enabled technology also makes an excellent low-cost travel card.
