I primarily use BBVA because the initial deposit is lower than other banks. The customer service isn't as consistent as I would like, however, when they are good, they are really good. I would recommend them to those who want to open a CD but don't have a lot of money to make their first deposit.

BBVA Online CD. Although I applied for, was approved and funded this account entirely electronically, I was shocked to learn that I needed to send a signed, notarized letter with a picture of my driver's license (back & front) in order to close this account at maturity and have BBVA send me a check in the mail. Opened a 1-year CD mid-June of 2019. Maturity date was mid-June 2020. As instructed by BBVA, I sent a notarized letter of instruction + copy of drivers license in mid-May telling them to close the account UPON MATURITY (mid-June 2020). I financed a car loan in 2015 with BBVA Compass. On 12/13/2017, I was notified of a 30 day late payment from Compass Bank. ALL OF MY CAR PAYMENTS WERE PAID AND ARE UP TO DATE, therefore I was very distraught to read this misguided information.
