CrowdRise is the largest online fundraising platform for raising charitable donations. It was founded in 2009 by power couple Edward Norton and Shauna Robertson, and Robert and Jeffrey Wolfe: founders of the outdoor apparel brand Moosejaw.

Although CrowdRise focuses on non-profit causes, it´s certainly a for-profit company. And a successful one at that. Such is the case that in 2014, the Detroit-based Company received $23 million in funding from Bezos Expeditions, CAA Ventures, Fred Wilson and Index Ventures.

What Fees And Commissions Does CrowdRise Charge?

Setting up a fundraiser is free. Once you start getting money, CrowdRise will keep 3%. This includes credit card fees. This is less than most fundraising platforms. Typically fundraisers charge 3% to 5% plus credit card fees, which often brings up the total cost to 8%.
