Universal North America Insurance Company is an insurance carrier based in Sarasota, FL. The company was founded in 2002 and offers flood insurance in 17 states in the USA. However, standard homeowners insurance policies don't cover flood damage.

Universal North America Insurance Company FAQ

What types of coverage does Universal North America Insurance Company offer?

Flood insurance includes a variety of coverages. One of the best ways to saving money on your home insurance is to only pay for the coverage you need. There are two main types of flood insurance: policies offered by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and those provided by private companies, also known as excess flood coverage. Universal North America Insurance Company only offers federal flood insurance policies..

NFIP Flood Coverage: Flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Progam has two basic policies. One that covers the building property up to $250,000 and one that covers personal property up to $100,000.

  • Dwelling Coverage: Also called dwelling insurance. This is the part of your flood insurance policy that helps pay for the rebuilding or the repair of the physical structure of your home. Federal flood insurance has a maximum coverage of $250,000. If you have a mortgage, your lender may require you to apply for excess flood coverage.

  • Personal Property Protection: This insurance protects the items in your home, like your furniture. If they're damaged or lost, personal property coverage could help you cover the cost of replacing them. Federal flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Progam maxes out at $100,000. If that doesn't cover the value of your personal property, consider buying excess flood coverage.

  • Community Rating System: The National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary incentive program that encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements. Flood insurance premium rates of federal flood insurance policies are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community actions.
  • Flood Zone Designation: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) creates flood zone maps that estimate the risk of flooding.

Message From Universal North America Insurance Company

Floods usually strike without warning. They're always swift and severe. The threat often comes from events like hurricanes or heavy storms, but they can also occur after a drought or wildfire, when vegetation that would normally absorb excess water is no longer there. So it's important to be prepared.

Universal Flood Protection is offered in partnership with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which means our coverage is solidly backed by the federal government. Under NFIP guidelines, almost every home in participating communities is eligible for flood insurance, and policyholders will enjoy these added benefits: Unlike many federal disaster relief packages, there's no loan to repay. Coverage can be extended to protect valued personal belongings. Once coverage is in force, immediate relief may be available through advances or partial payments.
