Stash invest Pros & Cons

Stash invest FAQ

What fees does Stash invest charge?

Stash invest uses a fee-only model.
This means Stash invest gets paid a flat fee regardless of what financial products or services you use. It also means they have a fiduciary responsibility to their clients. Instead of making money on trades commissions or selling products, they recommend an asset allocation and get paid a flat-fee or a percentage of the assets under administration. That requires that they act in their client’s financial best interest at all times.

What management fees does Stash invest charge?

Stash invest charges a fixed monthly fee of $1 to $9 .
Many financial advisors charge based on how much money they oversee by using a fee-structure called “assets under management,” or AUM. For instance, a 0.40% fee translates to $4 per year for every $1,000 an investment advisor manages. Management fees, also known as maintenance fees, cover the operating costs of investment advisors and are typically deducted from your account every month or quarter. The management fee does not cover the underlying expense ratios of the investment vehicles purchased by investment advisors.

What are the investment expense ratios of Stash invest?

Hiring an investment advisor with competitive investment fees is one of the most important steps to maximizing your portfolio's performance. Investment expense ratios can vary drastically depending on the types of accounts and assets involved. A survey by the ICI puts the average expense ratio for actively managed funds at 0.76% and indexed funds at 0.08%. The investment expense ratios of an investment advisor will vary depending on the type of assets they invest in and whether they attach additional charges to fund fees.
Stash invest does not charge fees based on an investment expense ratio.

What type of investment accounts and asset classes does Stash invest support?

Stash Financial, lnc offers the following types of assets and account types.
Stash Financial, lnc does not offer any of the investment vehicles that we track.

There are far better investment apps that also will allow you to speak to a human. This was my first investment app, and it helped me learn about investing. Since then, I have found other tools that don't have a subscription fee that I would prefer to use. This is a good starter app if you know nothing about stocks and are trying to learn. Only takes a day or ...Show More

I like to compare services and whichever one has the obvious advantage that is the one I stick with. Unfortunately, the competition that Stash has make it unfair for them to compete. They’re not horrible, I'm sure that they have their pros somewhere, but they’re just not the app for me.

I've been a member with Stash since around September of 2020. During that time I haven't had a lot of experience with the company. My funds appear safe. They hold your money way longer than an average bank, so emphasis on appear. I'd do more research and be careful with this company. Do not recommend dumping all of your savings here carelessly.

Stash allowed me to start tucking away a little money at a time in investment accounts. At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, I put a small investment into Amazon. Over the last eight months, I have watched that investment grow which encouraged me to “stash” more money in the account. Stash has an available bank account through Green Dot Bank that allows funds to be placed in goal accounts. ...Show More

Stash gave me the confidence and tools to position myself correctly in the investing sector. I followed their steps and guidance, and less than a month later, I was able to build my investment portfolio on my own. The app interface is quite user-friendly and easy to navigate as it automates how I save and invest. The only downplay about it is that beginners like me don’t enjoy the benefit ...Show More

Stay away from Stash if have you no idea of what investment is. The exceptional thing about them is that you have the luxury of getting a debit card to pay for expense from your account balance. Their commission on withdrawal is higher than other advisors I have used. The value for money is not really there. If I am to rate, I would say Acorns Invest > OpenInvest > ...Show More

Stash helps me find investments and I also am able to get a debit card, so that the money that I can transfer money into the account and use for purchases or for investment. The account with Stash is just like a checking account as well and I can setup direct deposit if I wan too and have my employment checks going to the account.

I consider myself a low-risk investor and so I was a bit skeptical on starting out with Stash but I must say that I made a really good decision. I get to build my portfolio based on my risk-tolerance and invest in offerings that align with my values. I'll highly recommend Stash to anyone interested investment- even a newbie

This is an app that touts itself as making investing easy for laymen, and I'd agree they made their objective. It makes investing in big stocks easy and affordable. You only need $5 to start, or at least, that's how it was when I started out. I'm impressed.

It is an easy investment tool to buy small shares of companies in the stock market. I like the option of having a debit card available to make purchases with your account balance. But very slow to sell stocks and withdraw the funds and high commission service fees at the time of withdrawl.

Simply NOT worth it. I used both Acorns and Stash. Stash's fees are too high for what they offer. You could just copy down the names of the ETFs you like and use another service, like Schwab, to invest in the stuff you like without the exorbitant fees. Acorns at least makes it worth it by offering Found Money, so you can basically cancel out the monthly fee that way.
