American Family life insurance FAQ

What types of life insurance products does American Family offer?

Life insurance companies typically offer a wide variety of life insurance options. One of the best ways to save money on life insurance products is to avoid unnecessary coverage. Only purchase life insurance policies and riders you actually need.
Here is a brief description of life insurance options American Family offers.
  • Term Life Insurance - This is the simplest type of life insurance policy. Term life insurance policies are payable if the insured person dies within a specific period of time, such as 5, 10, or 30 years. American Family life insurance offers term lengths ranging from 10 to 30 years.
  • Level Term Life Insurance - These are term life insurance policies that have the same fixed premium and payment amount through the duration of the life insurance policy.
  • Whole Life Insurance - Whole life insurance policies remain in force for the policyholder's entire life, provided premiums are paid. They have a tax deferred cash value, meaning the cash value will not be taxed until funds are withdrawn.

While shopping around for life insurance, AFL had the worst rates I'd come across. Customer service was great but their rates are just so much higher than any other company I looked at and they had no better options. Ended up going with a different provider.

There are plenty of other companies that offer coverage in all 50 states in the US that also offer lower coverage than this insurance company. I would recommend those companies before this one for my personal price range.

The main reason I would say maybe to recommendation is because there are lower coverage amounts available. Also, they are only available in about 29 states. Another pro for this one is that an exam is not required. Who doesn’t love that?

I've been paying $50 a month for aprox. 30 years on a Universal life policy and now that my husband is 65 I find out the policy will be defunct in 4-6 years and we will have NO life insurance! When we bought this, it was sold as a permanent $50,000 life insurance policy. I don't understand how this can even be legal. They claim it's due to the economy ...Show More
