Mazuma Credit Union (Company)

We’re also a Kansas City mainstay. In 1948, Joe Pinkerton had a singular goal: to make Kansas City a better place to live, work, and bank. The State of Missouri gave him the green light, and just like that the Kansas City National Federation of Federal Employees Credit Union was born. With a whopping $5 share deposit, Clarence H. Plaskett became the first charter Member of the credit union. Meanwhile, Joe and his wife, Wyla, recruited more new Members by going from one railroad station to the next collecting deposits in a shoebox. In 1998, on our 50th birthday, we changed our name to Mazuma, the Yiddish word for money. Fast forward to the present day, we still love Kansas City just as much as Joe did when he founded Mazuma, and we're proud to continue his tradition of giving back by taking an active role in the arts, financial education and community development.
