What we love about the L.L. Bean Credit Card

The L.L. Bean credit card is a store-branded credit card that you can use at other retailers. The card offers strong rewards for loyal L.L. Bean shoppers, bonus rewards on L.L. Bean purchases L.L. Bean Outdoor Discover school, at gas stations and restaurants. You’ll get your rewards in the form of Bean Bucks that you can redeem toward L.L. Bean merchandise.
Beyond rewards, the L.L. Bean credit card offers additional perks. For example, you can get free shipping on purchases that you want to return and free monogramming services. Cardholders also get exclusive discounts and rebates.

What could the L.L. Bean Credit Card do better?

The drawback of the L.L. Bean credit card is that its rewards are restrictive. You can only use the rewards you earn toward L.L. Bean merchandise. Other credit cards, like cash back cards, offer more flexible rewards that you can use anywhere.
The card also lacks a sign up bonus. Many retailers offer a small bonus like a discount on your first purchase if you sign up for a card.
The L.L. Bean credit card also has stricter credit requirements compared to many retailer cards, which can make qualifying difficult.

L.L. Bean Credit Card’s backstory

L.L. Bean is a private retail company founded in 1912. The company focuses on clothing and outdoor gear like boots. The company began offering the L.L. Bean credit card to help people finance their purchases and earn rewards.

The Verdict

If you’re a dedicated L.L. Bean shopper the L.L. Bean credit card is a great way to get perks and earn rewards toward your next purchase. If you only shop at L.L. Bean occasionally, there are better rewards cards out there.

Highest interest rate of any card I've ever owned, no 0 APR introductory period, and they began hassling me that I'm not using their card just days after I spent $1000.

No reason other than their algorithm determining a of lack of credit history? Maintain high balance in checking, pay any balance immediately, have no debt, have an 800+ credit score rating, more than adequate income to qualify. This is insulting and discrimination to a senior.

Terrible customer service. It was nearly impossible to get to a real person in the first place - the automated phone maze gives no option for that, and saying "agent" doesn't help. Both people I talked to simply read from prepared scripts rather than try to help me with my problem - and they would charge ahead with their spiel talking over me incessantly. I have been reading reviews post about the LLBean Mastercard. There are many concerns about customer service being unhelpful, internal processes not up to date compared to other providers, and lack of transparency in handling day to day customer activity. The rating comparison is most interested in "benefits of the card". Benefits do not make up for poor customer service, which includes dated processes and lack of concern ...Show More

Absolutely terrible customer service regarding a disputed claim. Everything goes through snail mail. I mailed in the required documents and they couldn't find them. When they did, I was told I had already received the merchandise, which I did not. After more phone calls I was told to write a letter requesting I reopen the case. What a joke! There is something a bit faster called emails. What a ...Show More
