About Money Markets

The money markets are where people trade in financial products that are easy to buy and sell (highly liquid) and have short terms (less than a year). These investments are usually safe, but they don't offer a lot of interest. Big institutions trade large volumes in the wholesale money markets. For individual investors, the retail money markets include things like money market mutual funds and bank accounts. People can also invest in the money markets by buying short-term certificates of deposit, municipal notes, US Treasury bills, and similar investments.
