Message from Meritrust Credit Union
Meritrust was originally chartered in December of 1935 when employees from the Stearman Aircraft Company in Wichita collaborated and organized an employees credit union. In 1941, Boeing Aircraft Company bought Stearman Aircraft and in the process, our name was changed to Wichita Boeing Employees Credit Union to reflect the new company. For many decades, we took pride in serving the local community and meeting the financial needs of the employees of the Boeing Aircraft Company and their families. In 1994, our Board of Directors made the decision to change our charter to allow us to serve everyone within our communities, in addition to Boeing Aircraft Company employees. To reflect our community charter, we changed our name to Boeing Wichita Credit Union or simply, BWCU. In the following decade, our credit union grew quickly. As we expanded into new markets outside of Wichita with the opening of our Lawrence branches, we realized we had outgrown our name. It became more and more important to have a name and brand that represented who we are in all of our communities.
In 2009, in an effort to communicate who we were as a credit union and to attract new members across our Kansas service area who could benefit from our products and services, we became Meritrust Credit Union. Our new name is defined as an extension of the two pillars of our unsurpassed service that matter most to our members-Merit and Trust. For Kansans in our Field of Membership, Meritrust is a different kind of financial institution that brings a fresh, welcoming approach to doing business. We combine the most advanced technology with a comprehensive array of services tailored to grow you and your family for generations. We have always treated our members like family and we will always provide our friendly, best-in-class service, exceeding your expectations. Today, Meritrust currently has many traditional branches in and around Wichita, including branches in Andover, Derby, Lawrence, and Manhattan. We proudly serve our members with over 300 employees.
