Who is Comenity Bank's Gander Mountain Credit Card Designed For?

The Gander Mountain credit card is a good choice for outdoor enthusiasts who shop regularly at Gander Mountain or Overtons.com and don't have the credit to qualify for a major rewards credit card. It is particularly attractive for those who spend a lot on gas and groceries and don't mind getting their rewards in Gander Mountain cash certificates.

What are the Rates?

The rates on Gander Mountain's credit card are what you would expect from a store credit card: not great. They range from 16.99% APR to 24.99% APR on purchases, depending on your creditworthiness. If your credit is good, the rate is acceptable. Although if you have good credit, you should probably apply for a better credit card.

The rate on balance transfers and cash advances is high: 24.99% APR. This is certainly not the card to use for cash withdrawals and balance transfers.

What Are the Fees?

Gander Mountain's credit card doesn't have an annual fee, which is what you would expect from a store card. It does have a $10 or 3% (whatever is greater) balance transfer and cash advance fee, and a $35 late payment and returned payment fee. There is also a 3% foreign transaction fee to remember.

Bottom line, don't use it outside of the United States and never keep a balance or use it on an ATM.

What Is the Rewards Program Like?

Gander Mountain has a stacked rewards program that offer 3 points for every dollar spent on Gander Mountain and Overtons.com, 2 points for every dollar spent on gas and groceries, and 1 point for every dollar spent on all other purchases.

The double reward rate on gas and groceries only applies to the first $500 every month. After that, the rate drops to 1 point per dollar. Spend $500 a month on gas and groceries and get back $120 a year.

The only way to redeem your points is as cash certificates, which can only be spent at Gander Mountain stores. Every point is worth a cent, so 20,000 points can be redeemed for a $20 cash certificate.

What about the Signup Bonus?

Gander Mountain's credit card comes with a $60 signup bonus when cardholders spend $500 and make at least one purchase at a location other than a Gander Mountain store.

How Is Comenity Bank - Gander Mountain MasterCard Better Than Other Credit Cards?

The signup bonus and rewards program are excellent for a store credit card. The rates are on the high side, particularly for balance transfers and cash advances; but it doesn't have an annual fee. As long as you avoid keeping a balance and don't use it for cash advances, this card can provide significant discounts on your Gander Mountain and Overton's purchases.

This card is definitely good if you want to give your money away. The One sided bank agreement is not in favor of the consumer. The highest interest rate I have seen. If you make a duplicate payment by mistake, you cannot get your money back. You just have more credit at the store. If the primary card holder wants to talk to a representative, the charge is $9. But if your spouse talks to a representative, there is no “fee to talk to a person”. The consumer best be ... attentive and fully awake if he or she agrees to this credit card. More Less

CRAP! downright crap! Started my limit at 1,000$, no problem had for about a year, know my cash back was ONLY store credit, but my fiancé is an avid fisherman and hunter. After one year I requested a credit increase limit and was denied, not only was I denied but my limit was DECREASED! Nevermind I always paid off my balance in FULL in the past year. Every month like clockwork. But because my score had gone down, um yeah, I HAD just purchased a vehicle so naturally my score ... decreased by 14 points.. paying off card this month and NEVER using again! More Less

Gander Mountain Cards are a scam!!! I tried paying my first balance and received a rejection from account I never even gave them ($27.00) and to navigate through their recording is a nightmare "I'm sorry I didn't understand you"!!! I thought if I close my account I would receive a live person, no chance!!! When you select close account, it closes your account with no questions asked (you just damaged your credit score). When you call the number repeat "Custoemr Service" (which is not a recorded option) it will ... take you to a live person. Keep your cool because these people are just taking your call and as far as I know are assisting you as you request. Bottom line I paid $27.00 in a rejection fee, lost my $60 in credit for charging +$500 and dealt with hours of frustration. I have such a bitter taste in my mouth of Gander I will drive 10 miles out of my way of their store. I feel sorry for the employees that want to make a carrier with Gander because for this type of business you'll be out of business. I will continue my business with Cabela's, Academy, Dick's and Bass Pro but not Gander. I gave all negative reviews because if I don't Gander may show only the positive ones. Don't get me wrong, the store personnel are nice folks but they seamed to be driven to sell extended warranties, options and signing up for credit card offers, etc. I didn't receive any benefits from credit card offer. I got a rejected fee, not my $60 for spending $500+, and no points to my purchases, plus a closed account which will go against my credit score. Not to mention the frustration which they are probably laughing from the recorded calls. Oh well...goodbye Gander!!! More Less

1. Statement Closing Date is *NOT* prominently displayed or even available on their web interface.

2. The main screen may say "No Payment Due", but if you go to make a payment there will be a due date. That is as close to knowing your statement closing date.

3. Items are extremely slow to post and be updated on the web interface. This means you could pay your balance in full one day and have a late post before closing date.

4. My sense is that this bank card is doing everything in ... its power to get you to pay interest charges.

5. You may get an e-Mail with a Reward Scan Code but it won't be good for an additional 48 to 72 hours. That's about wehrn the actual statement will come out. Again, this seems to be targetting to get you to go into the store have your reward denied and get you to buy product out of pocket.

6. I do not think this bank even knows what high sped electronic processing looks like.

? Will I dump the card? Maybe... Probably the first time I pay the balance in full and still get charged interest because of the hidden closing date.

7. Best policy, if you're in it for the rewards, is to pay daily to keep the average daily balance low.

I got this credit card in December of last year primarily for my business travel. I travel often and there is usually a rolling balance from when I arrange all my travel, to when I take the trip and when I receive my expenses back from my company. What I have found is that their policy is that it can take up to 15 business days for a payment that you make (either through their website or through an ACH transfer direct from your bank) to be processed ... and show as available credit for use. There are some times when I'm scheduled for 2-3 trips at a time and am making payments essentially weekly as I receive my expenses back but with this amount of activity, 15 days for the payment to post is unworkable for me. I was hoping that this was because I'm a relatively new customer but the customer service manager informed me that this is standard practice for me. That being said, they do have a great customer service department, everyone is very friendly and in order to temporarily fix this for me, they provided me with a temporary credit limit increase until the payments begin to post. I guess I will have to use my Chase or Capital One cards for my travel and give up on getting massive amounts of store credit at Gander Mountain due to my travel. BOO More Less

Read the fine print and the big print before you get yourself one of these cards. The interest rate is really high--nearly 25%, so beware! I found out not because I didn't pay it off in time (or try to), but because they taking forever to post your payment. As a result, I got a late charge and was hit with this horrible interest rate. I paid it off and cut it up.

This card is definitely good if you like outdoor sports, because you do get some perks as a Gander MTN customer. There are other things about the card that aren't so great, however, including the interest rate which is supposed to be as low as 16.99 percent but it was the top amount for me, even though my credit isn't all that bad.
