Who is Harley Davidson's Visa Secured Card For?

Harley Davidson's Visa Secured Card is designed for Harley Davidson enthusiasts who want to repair or build their credit with a low-cost secured card and also want a rewards program. The secured card has a credit line ranging from $300 to $5,000.

As with all secured cards the credit limit depends on how much you are prepared to hand out as a security deposit, so it's only an option for people with at least $300 on hand for a security deposit.

What are the Rates?

Rates are high for a secured card: 22.99% APR on purchases and balance transfers, and 23.99% APR on cash advances. Needless to say, this is not a card you want to keep a balance on or use at ATMs. On the bright side, it doesn't have a penalty rate so you don't have to worry about a higher rate when you're late on a payment.

What Are the Fees?

Harley Davidson's Visa Secured Card does not have an annual fee, which is a pleasant surprise for a secured card with a rewards program. However, it does have a 3% foreign transaction, a $35 fee on late payments and returned payments, and a 3% or $5 fee (whichever is greater) on balance transfers. Cash advances come with a 3% or $10 fee.

What Is the Rewards Program Like?

The rewards program gives cardholders one Harley Davidson Genuine Rewards point for every dollar spent. Genuine Rewards can only be redeemed for Harley Davidson cash certificates, so it amounts to a 1% cash back on all purchases.

What about the Signup Bonus?

The Harley Davidson Visa Secured Card comes with a $10 Genuine Rewards Certificate. Admittedly, $10 is not much; but for a secured card without an annual fee, it's great.

Any Other Benefits?

New cardholders enter the chance of winning a new motorcycle with the Harley Davidson Visa Free Ride Sweepstakes. The card also includes auto rental collision damage waiver, fraud protection and zero fraud liability.

How Is It Better Than Other Credit Cards?

Harley Davidson is rare among no-annual-fee security cards because it offers a rewards program and a signup bonus. The rates are not great, so this is not a card on which you would want to keep a balance, use to withdrawal cash at ATMs, or to make purchases abroad.

However, US Bank pays interest on your security deposit, something most secured cards don't offer. So, if you like Harley Davidsons, have the cash on hand to make a decent security deposit, need to improve your credit, and don't plan to carry a balance, consider this card.
