The price of services can vary widely depending on the type of services you require. To help you compare prices we have categorized tax preparation services into three tiers: basic, standard, and premium.
Federal tax returns
- File for free TurboTax Free Edition. ~37% of filers qualify. Simple Form 1040 returns only (no schedules, except for EITC, CTC, student loan interest, and Schedule 1-A).
- TurboTax Expert Assist Deluxe tax return: $79.
- Expert Assist Premium tax return: $159.
- TurboTax Expert Full Service: Starting at $89.
State tax returns
TurboTax charges $64 for filing a state tax return.

Since 1995, TurboTax has been my go-to for filing taxes. If you have simple taxes it's worth it and a money saver! But if you have a lot of write offs, a side hustle, a business or are even slightly self employed then Turbo Tax can be a major headache. I didn't start using turbo tax until two years ago, but it has by far the easiest and fastest tax prep service I have used in 5 years I've been doing my taxes. I fall into the income range where filing is free for me, which Is a really nice feature. TurboTax is honestly one of the easiest software to use. I've only used it for simple returns - it's super straightforward and walks you through the process step by step. All you have to do is create an account and answer each question. I highly recommend filing with them especially if you only have a w2 as it is free! For many years I use TurboTax for tax return preparation as it was recommended by Vanguard. Every year something is changed and I have problems to import forms from Vanguard to TurboTax. With help of TT representative I get it complete however my notes taken a last year are not in use.

First turbo tax listed me as self employed and charged me $90 and I’m not. Secondly, because of a glitch in their system I could not E File and had to mail my return. Filing taxes is a must, but sometimes it gets confusing. TurboTax definitely makes it easier. There are so many forms and factors that go into filing taxes that TurboTax organizes clearly for customers to understand. However, the basic no cost membership doesn't last long and quickly makes you increase membership tiers forcing you to pay upwards of $100.

Horrible. The free file ended up costing me $300. They alerted me my $3k refund has been received, and the irs has issueed my check for $3k. I have used TurboTax for a few years now. GUI is very user-friendly and customer service is responsive when I needed them. They have step-by-step instructions that walk you through every process and clearly explain each one to not leave you confused. Filing my taxes has never been easier and quicker than with this platform.

The only thing made me vote for maybe about turbo tax is their tax refund timings. They take long time for tax refunds as usual otherwise if you can wait for the refunds then it’s a great app for filing your tax. They are time saving and money saving. The procedure and presentation of the app is excellent. My family members always use turbotax for filing their yearly tax returns.

I recently made use of Turbo tax to figure out and file my taxes,though I don't have complex taxes.
I have all my records well documented in a folder.When its time for tax,I simply upload it .Turbo tax always upload your previous personal and tax information, so that cuts down the monotony.

Turbo tax is great if you are tech savvy. You can easily import documents and they lay things out so they are easy to use. There are also add ons that you can get to assist you such as live or even a CPA to do your taxes for you for an additional cost.
