Amegy Bank (Company)

The year was 1990, and Walter Johnson was convinced that there was a better way to do banking in Texas. The 80’s had permanently altered the Texas banking landscape and the community needed a Texas bank to help it recover from a difficult period. Walter knew that Texans would want a bank large enough to offer the products and services of big banks, but with a Texas feel and understanding. He also imagined a bank that was dedicated to the community. Walter convinced 135 Houstonians to make an investment to help establish a bank built by Texans, for Texans. In February of 1990, this new bank started with one branch, 20 bankers, $50 million in assets and plenty of optimism!

We are pleased to share with the communities we serve a summary of our organizational reflection toward the many events over the past 12 months that have challenged our reality of inclusion and equality. The result is a deeper commitment to live our core values, and to report actions that contribute positively each step of the way on this continual journey where everyone can strive and achieve a better life. Amegy Bank’s mission is to create a culture of caring bankers who support the growth of businesses, families and the communities we serve.
