Island Insurance Co FAQ

What types of coverage does Island Insurance Co offer?

Flood insurance includes a variety of coverages. One of the best ways to saving money on your home insurance is to only pay for the coverage you need. There are two main types of flood insurance: policies offered by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and those provided by private companies, also known as excess flood coverage. Island Insurance Co only offers federal flood insurance policies..
NFIP Flood Coverage: Flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Progam has two basic policies. One that covers the building property up to $250,000 and one that covers personal property up to $100,000.
  • Dwelling Coverage: Also called dwelling insurance. This is the part of your flood insurance policy that helps pay for the rebuilding or the repair of the physical structure of your home. Federal flood insurance has a maximum coverage of $250,000. If you have a mortgage, your lender may require you to apply for excess flood coverage.
  • Personal Property Protection: This insurance protects the items in your home, like your furniture. If they're damaged or lost, personal property coverage could help you cover the cost of replacing them. Federal flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Progam maxes out at $100,000. If that doesn't cover the value of your personal property, consider buying excess flood coverage.

Message from Island Insurance Co

In Hawaii, our sunny weather can provide a false sense of security when it comes to evaluating the risk of flooding. Hawaii is also prone to bouts of heavy rain, flash flooding as well as ocean surges due to high surf. Since flood losses are not covered by homeowners or fire insurance an unfortunate flood situation would make you responsible for any repairs to your home or property. With 25% of flood insurance claims occurring in low to moderate risk flood areas, any home can still be in danger of damage from sudden rushing water, mudflow, wave action and water overflow.

More importantly, with the recent flood maps changes, many homes in Hawaii not previously at risk, may now be classified in a flood prone area. We provide flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program's Write-Your-Own Flood Insurance Policy. One modest annual premium is all it will take to protect you from the unexpected. After insuring my house for 10 years, suddenly Island (Taea Tagagi) said I was a Duplex (in no way am I) then when challenged by DCCA, said I am a Zero Lot (same as I have been since they inspected my house 10 years ago) and that they don't insure Zero Lots ... then she canceleed my Homeowners Policy. Dishonest and unethical I think. Look elsewhere for insurance because they ...Show More

Island Insurance really helped me out during hard times. setting an account is easy , they talk to you with respect, and they understand you’re frustration about everything. there’s nothing like them and i would highly ...Show More

My family had excellent experiences with Island Insurance. Insurance is complicated and insurance companies are so predatory that I can't imagine going it alone. Island Insurance exceeded my expectations, setting up auto policies with no notice while I'm waiting in a dealership, and comparing my policies with those of my family to help me make informed decisions.
