Encompass auto insurance Pros & Cons

Encompass auto insurance FAQ

What types of car insurance coverage options does Encompass auto insurance offer?

Although we often talk about car insurance in the singular, it really includes several types of coverage options.

Encompass auto insurance customers can also add the following riders or endorsements to their insurance policies:

  • Accident Forgiveness: Encompass offers accident forgiveness, which excuses your first accident. This means no insurance rate increase, even if it's your fault.
  • Modified Vehicle Insurance: This coverage, also known as customized parts and equipment coverage, can help repair or replace alterations and upgrades you make to your vehicle. Notice that most car insurance policies will only cover original equipment so you may want to consider this policy if you've invested a lot of money on aftermarket parts and upgrades.
  • Travel Expenses / Trip Interruption Coverage: This coverage helps pay for non-refundable expenses if your trip is delayed or canceled due to an accident, mechanical breakdown, theft, injury, unexpected illness, or some other covered event.
  • Rental Car Coverage: Rental car coverage, also known as rental car reimbursement, pays for the cost of a car rental if you can't drive your vehicle because of a covered loss, such as a car accident, theft, or vandalism.
  • Loan / Lease / GAP Coverage: GAP coverage covers the difference between what you owe on your vehicle and its current cash value in the event of a total loss.
  • Emergency Roadside Service: Coverage varies by carrier but it typically includes jump starts for dead batteries, labor to change a flat tire, towing, and lockout services.

  • Internal Safety Features: Encompass auto insurance offers additional savings if you have seatbelts, airbags, and similar safety features. Ask what other safety features on your car will trigger an inurance discount.

How does Encompass calculate insurance rates?

Car insurance companies guard their risk-assessment algorithms as a trade secret, and Encompass is no exception. However, you can be confident that Encompass auto insurance will take into consideration your driving record, age, gender, marital status, and address.
Other factors it will take into consideration are your vehicle (make and model), insurance history, and how you use your car.

Does Encompass auto insurance use your credit score?

It is safe to assume that, when legal, a car insurance company will use your credit score as a rating factor. There are two exceptions.
  1. If you live in California, Hawaii, or Massachusetts, a car insurance company is not allowed to use your credit report as a rating factor.
  2. There are also a handful of car insurance companies that base their insurance rates exclusively on telematic data. These companies collect information on your driving behavior and use it to determine the risk you pose as a driver.

Message from Encompass auto insurance

Your car is an important part of your daily life. So you need an insurance policy that can keep up. While the EncompassOne® Policy protects your car, home and more, we also offer standalone auto insurance in three levels of coverage, also referred to as Special, Deluxe and Elite. With rich features, high limits and valuable insurance discounts—Encompass offers auto policies designed for whatever road life takes. In addition to the basics, our auto coverage has many included and optional features such as: Your new car is an investment, and this can be a smart way to protect it. If your car is totaled due to a covered total loss, we'll replace your vehicle with a current model year, if possible, or a new car of similar size and class if your model is no longer available—all you pay is your policy's deductible. To qualify, your car must be under four model years old, you must be the original owner of the vehicle, and the coverage must be added when adding the car to your policy. We understand that accidents happen to safe drivers, too. Accident Forgiveness can help keep you from incurring a spike in your premium because of an accident, which may be especially helpful if your policy includes a newly licensed driver. And when you upgrade to our Elite auto coverage, you get Enhanced Accident Forgiveness which applies to multiple—not just the first—at-fault accidents, starting the day you sign up. As vehicles age and depreciate, a gap between the original amount of the loan and the car's value can start to widen. Loan/lease gap coverage would protect you in these cases and pay off the original loan. Coverage can be added to new (previously untitled) vehicles within 30 days of financing and the vehicle must have both comprehensive and collision coverage.

If you're stranded, Encompass Roadside Assistance offers 24/7 roadside service with a wide range of available features and services in the event of a breakdown, flat tire, or even dead battery. And with the Encompass Roadside App, you have on-the-go support for your vehicle as well access to MyEncompass where you can view your account, pay your bill and pull up your ID card. The app is convenient, easy to use, and free to download. If you're purchasing auto insurance for your teenager, you're likely wondering about how adding a newly licensed driver could affect your existing policy. While it's no surprise it's likely to bump up your premium, there are steps you can take to minimize the impact. For example, having unlimited accident forgiveness, which comes included with our Elite auto coverage, can help save you money and provide invaluable peace of mind.
