If you were a fan of Garfield, the Commerce Bank – Garfield Visa card provided you with a cool opportunity to demonstrate that fact. But as of January 2015, the card Commerce Bank website no longer features this card. As it turns out, this card offered middling benefits at best, and there are alternatives available that are as good, if not better.

Who Was the Commerce Bank – Garfield Visa Card Designed For?

This was a regular consumer visa card. It was not targeted for students. It was also not intended for business use.

Were There Annual Fees?

There were no annual fees.

Did the Commerce Bank – Garfield Visa Card Offer Rewards?

Cardholders were awarded 1 point for every 1 dollar in net merchandise purchases and 3 points for every 1 dollar in interest charges. There was no limit on the number of points that could be earned, and points expired after 3 years.

Were There Foreign Transaction Fees?

Foreign transaction fees of 1 percent were imposed on transactions made in US Dollars and 2 percent on transactions made with foreign currency.

Were There Late Payment or other Penalty Fees?

Late payments were penalized up to 37 dollars. Balance transfers and cash advances were charged 10 dollars or 5 percent, whichever is greater.

Summary

With the Commerce Bank – Garfield Visa card, cardholders received a card with an amusing cartoon design and a so-so set of benefits. Especially for individuals with good credit, there were – and are – cards with better benefits to be had. The major point in this card's favor was the absence of an annual fee, a trait shared by many credit cards.
