When the store says no
- Paid by credit card? Some cards include purchase protection or return protection that can refund an item the store will not take back. Check your card’s benefits guide before the window closes.
- Store will not follow its own policy? You can ask your card issuer for a chargeback. Keep the receipt, the posted policy and your messages with the store. Issuers set time limits on disputes.
- Paid with Affirm, Klarna or Afterpay? The store handles the return, then the provider adjusts your plan. Report the return in the provider’s app and keep watching your payment schedule until the refund posts, since a missed installment can still cost you. More in buy now, pay later vs credit cards.
